Depression Counselling

What is Depression?

While everyone feels sad from time to time, depression can be described as feelings of sadness and a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed. If you are feeling down for longer than a few days, you may be suffering from depression, which effects more than 15% of individuals at some point during their lifetime.

What Causes Depression?

While it is a common ailment, the origins of depressions are complex and not the same for each individual. Depression can be influenced by a number of factors, including biological genetic predisposition, a physical chemical imbalance, and environmental factors. At Freedom Counselling, we always recommend that clients experiencing chronic mental illness ask their doctor about medical options for treatment.

What is Depression Treatment?

Just as depression has many origins, it also has many treatment alternatives. The two main treatment options are medication and counselling or psychotherapy. As many studies have shown, the best treatment of counselling involves both of these options working together. Sometimes all that is needed is a listening ear, but sometimes more is required. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the premier psychotherapy recommended for depression, which all our counsellors at Freedom Counselling are trained in.
