Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

FAQ 1: What Is Counselling?

One of the most basic questions that we get is “What is counselling?” Counselling is a process in which you and a therapist engage in conversations about your life. Together you reflect on where you are now and where you want to be. Using the latest understandings of mental health and psychological research, together you come up with a plan to get there. This process is confidential, and there are no expectations for what or how much you share – you control the process and your future!

FAQ 2: What are Your Areas of Expertise?

Mental health is a complex and diverse issue, and so there are many approaches to counselling. Some counsellors are better equipped for different issues. For example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works well with anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms. On the other hand for symptoms of trauma or PTSD a specific trauma therapy might be better suited. And sometimes clients just want someone to listen to them. Freedom Counselling therapists each have different areas of expertise. Find out more about their specific areas of focus on our therapists page.

FAQ 4: How long does it take?

Each person is different, as is every person’s counselling journey. During the therapy process, you and your counsellor decide how you are progressing and how many counselling sessions your take. For many people, this is between 4 and 10 sessions, or 1 to 2 months.

FAQ 5: How much does it cost?

Counselling with a certified Registered Clinical Counsellor usually costs between $150 (individuals) – $175 (couples/families) per 50 minute session. Depending on your insurance coverage, this fee can be partially or completely covered. Freedom Counselling is happy to offer partnership with WorkSafe, Crime Victim Assistance Programs, and some Employee Assistance Programs.
